South Kalimantan Community Development Initiative (SKCDI)

In one of the poor neighborhoods served by the free medical clinic, the doctor’s wife has opened a free kindergarten program 4 days a week to serve roughly 25 children. Their hope is that these kids may get a head-start in basic skills such as reading and math before they enroll in the local elementary school. Schooling in this neighborhood is so poor that many drop out during their elementary years and never even learn to read well. We hope to instill in these children a love for learning that will keep them on track to finish high school.
