Special thanks to all who gave to the Harvey Relief Fund!

These funds will be used to help widows and single moms from the immigrant communities from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Palestine and Syria rebuild their homes and lives. These women lost approximately 75% of all their belongings in the devastating flood that accompanied Hurricane Harvey.

We have partnered with a local group in Houston who had relationships in these communities before the hurricane. Right after the water had receded, their team went straight to work hauling out ruined belongings, extracting standing water, pulling insulation, cutting out soggy sheet rock, and drying out their homes.

Immigrants in the neighborhood worked alongside the team members, and expressed their love and appreciation for the team's compassion for them. As they worked side by side, heart-felt relationships were forged and now they talk together as if they are family.

None of these women had flood insurance, and without help they will be hard-pressed to recover. Millennium is thrilled to participate in the team’s next phase through funding the following:

  • drywall, cabinet and flooring installation
  • painting
  • replacing of basic appliances and furnishings
  • Block-party for the flood-affected with activities, entertainment and resources on health and wellness.
