On August 26th 2026 a flash flood struck in the northern region of central Nepal leaving over 4,000 dead and 50,000+ displaced. This has resulted in the daunting challenge of how to rehabilitate the people devastated by this tragedy. Since 2005, 18,000+ units having been built in 8 countries, across 15 different disaster situations.<\/span><\/p>\n Each shelter unit can last 10+ years and can be assembled by a trained team of 4 in less than 1.5 hours. As of early September, there are thousands missing and dead in Nepal. When larger government agencies leave and smaller efforts are allowed into the area there will be hunger and much needed emergency relief for the refugees seeking shelter in the mountain villages. One of the Millennium teams who will be in the area is Pam Smith’s team.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n She has played a role in building schools, houses, and more. Along the way, she has organzied medical camps and curated technology donations for schools. Pam has also created jobs to support abandoned women, facilitating the skill development of agriculture, gardening, and sewing, empowering women to feed their families adn start smaall buisnesses.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Pam has always been drawn to what MRDS is all about: the effectiveness of long term community investment. She is quick to celebrate in the ways her relief team and the Nepali community give aid, joy, and purpose to each other. That same year, William (Bill) Koops moved to Iraq to work with the Kurds who were in refugee camps under UN and Allied protection. In 1997, seven thousand Kurds were evacuated to the US and many came to Houston. Koops returned to Houston at that time to help them settle into a new country.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.2″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Quicksand||||||||” text_text_color=”#1a1a1a” text_letter_spacing=”1px” background_color=”RGBA(255,255,255,0)” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n It was then that Bill met James Clark, a lawyer specializing in international law and finance.
